Self-development action plan

Your own coaching has to be customized to meet your own needs & goals.

Three prerequisite stages come before building the self-development action plan:
The stages below need from you a paper & a pen

STAGE 1
Know your needs & Set your goals

Ask yourself what I am doing in life? Categorize your answer and write it down.
eg. The categories of my life are:
-my relation to Allah
-my family
-my work
-my sport
-my readings
-,...etc

Write down what goals you want to achieve in each category for a specific time.
eg. I want to reach the marketing manager position in my job after 'one year' from now
-I want to learn by heart 6 sections of Kora'n by the next year.
-I want to be talented in English after one year from now.
-I want to lose weight and be 60 kgs by the next year.
-& so on.

STAGE 2
Know yourself

To Know more about yourself..

-Relax & remember all the activities you have made in life..
-Remember from the time you were a child up till now..
-Write these activities on the paper
eg. it can be a hobby, a sport you played, a volunteer activity, a project, a job,...etc
-Briefly describe what you did in each activity
use action words: I designed, wrote, organized, managed, negotiated, explained, improved, sold, won, achieved,...etc.
-Find out what skills you used or learned in each activity & write it down
eg. writing, communicating, organizing, planning, problem solving,...etc.
-Make a word picture about yourself
*I am good at convincing people, I learnt it by experience.
*I can analyze the events.
*I learned to work in a team from playing football.
*I am good at writing, I always post to my friends.
*I am objective oriented, I always win in competitions.
*I am good at planning, I used to go to camps.
-& so on.

STAGE 3
Estimate yourself


To estimate yourself in the human market, do the SWOT analysis

Strengths: you can know them from your skills

Weaknesses:i guess you know them

Opportunities:what makes you different from the other people, what are your special attributes

Threats:if everyone is developing himself & you stayed in your place,then you will not be in the same level as you were..instead you will go down!

Now it is time for building your developmental action plan

Most developmental techniques depend on overcoming your weaknesses.Spending time & energy improving on weaknesses results in mediocrity not greatness.
A new approach is to leverage your strengths. That is building on what you are really good at, so your weaknesses either disappear or become irrelevant.

So far, you have set your goals for a determined period (say a year from now).

Ask yourself : how can I achieve each goal?

Distribute each goal to the 12 months of the year.

eg. you wanted to study by heart 6 sections of Kora'n by the next year..For every month you will study 1/2 a section (=1part).

-you wanted to lose weight and be 60 kgs by the next year..let's say you are now 80 kgs..in the first 4 months lose a kg each month..the second 4 months lose 2 kgs each month..the third 4 months the same..the last 4 months maintain your weight at 60.

-you wanted to be talented in English after a year from now..you can start the first 4 months of the year with taking course.. second 4 months reading English novels & newspapers..third 4 months take conversation courses..the last 4 months practice every where.

A final step is to distribute the schedule of each months among the weeks 9this is done at the first of every month)
eg. To study by heart 1/2 a section of Kora'n every month, this will be a quarter every week.
& so on.
This is only a guide line, you can manage your time as you like it.

FOUR extra-schedule areas should be developed to maximize your performance..these are done once a week & have nothing to go for with the schedule you have made..they are extra & depend on your innovation.

These are:
-Your mind: maybe by reading something new, learning a computer program,...etc.
-Your soul: maybe by meditation, fasting, extra-praying,....etc.
-Your body: maybe by playing some sport, eating healthy food, getting up early,....etc.
-Your social life: maybe by visiting some friends, calling a relative,...etc.

Remeber..these 4 areas are covered once per week & changed every week or depending on you innovation.

Some recommendations:

*Make the daily schedule loose in order to have time for the 4 extra-schedule areas and for surprises.

*Achieving 85% of the schedule means excellence.

*Start the first months with easy tasks to feel the achievement..afterwards,increase the amount.

Remember to evaluate yourself after the action plan has been fulfilled ( after the year) & renew your plan for the next year.
